Jon I dont really listen to the show... at all... but my AP Environmental Science teacher always starts off every friday class with, happy science friday, or something of the sort, so it's sort of become a tradition in our class

James Carpenter

James Carpenter One of my favorite shows on NPR! As an engineer, I really enjoy the subject matter, presented in a way that everyone can enjoy. The segment on the science of pricing was really interesting.

Brent

Brent Not sure where to send requests on your page, so here goes. Let us know if there is a better path. Topic: Is it wise for us to be moving around asteriods that have been in orbits for millions of years. Can we truely understand what nuanced effects that will have on other objects? ex: What the Russians are talking about doing.

Science Friday

Science Friday Coming tomorrow on SciFri - from 2-3, it's birds and birding, plus a look inside DARPA. From 3-4 Eastern, it's the psychology of prices, one-minute math mysteries, and why you shouldn't rely on a cup of coffee to sober you up after tonight's midnight champagne toast. Happy New Year, and best wishes for 2010!

Susan Gawarecki

Susan Gawarecki My boyfriend and I surprised each other with "Here Comes Science" for Christmas! Science Friday is my favorite podcast. I listen to it while doing barn chores on my llama farm.

Heather Kirkwood

Heather Kirkwood Not sure where to send this - so I'm sorry in advance. I have an idea for a show. Feb. 28 is Rare Disease Day. I have a rare disease (about 850 in the US have it) and I can assure you living with an ultra-rare disease is a whole other ball game. Rare diseases contribute a lot to understanding more common disorders. Mig...ht make an interesting show. For more info, check out: http://rarediseaseday.us/about/

John Nagelschmidt

John Nagelschmidt WOW! I finally was able to listen to the Sci Fri twice-featured masterwork "Here Comes Science!" by the geniuses known as They Might Be Giants. I bought it for my 10-yr.-old nephew and 6-yr.-old niece for Christmas. They love it! My nephew is on his second viewing of the bonus DVD, and he's already singing along to the... incredibly catchy tunes. Thank you so much for featuring TMBG and their stunningly enjoyable vehicle toward knowledge. These fellas are champions for children and education. The videos are terrific too, as good as the classic School House Rocks collection. I'm very humbled to be the host of local breaks for Science Friday on member station WRVO Syracuse/Oswego. Thank you so much for all you do. Science Friday, They Might Be Giants... life is good.

Andy

Andy Call me paranoid, but I wonder why Gregory Mone failed to mention Santa's new Nanotechnology Division. Is Greg just another propagandist employed by Santa? By inserting nanobots into every gift Santa distributes, tracking who's naughty and nice will become even more efficient and pervasive. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Becky

Becky Am extremely disappointed in Julie Holland's show today. She's absolutely devoid of all compassion, seemingly forgetting that someone suffering from mental illness is somebody else's daughter, sister, mother, brother.... And deserves to be treated with compassion, rather than being objectified as just another "crazy" o...r "case". I cannot express how offended I am. She's set the mental health profession back decades. This conversation may be appropriate (but probably not) between professionals, but airing "crazy people" stories for entertainment is never acceptable. I hope she never finds out the hard way that this affects real people, real lives. She talks about crazies, liars, malingerers, criminals, and never once talks about the fear, poverty, isolation and loneliness of MI. And she comes across as anti-medication. Will NOT recommend her book......

Science Friday

Science Friday Coming up today - in our first hour, we'll take a trip to the AGU meeting, talk about gathering science data using cell phones, and talk about a new study that says the average American consumes 34 gigabytes of data in a normal day. In our second hour, we'll hear about using DNA in soil samples to date the reign of the... woolly mammoth, and talk with a psychiatrist who spent 9 years running the weekend shift at Bellevue Hospital's psychiatric emergency room.

Science Friday Gorgeous image released today from ESA's Herschel infrared observatory.

www.esa.int
Herschel has peered inside an unseen stellar nursery and revealed surprising amounts of activity. Some 700 newly-forming stars are estimated to be crowded into filaments of dust stretching through the image. The image is the first new release of ‘OSHI’, ESA’s Online Showcase of Herschel Images.
